THE BOCONNOC STEAM FAIR
Presented by
The Liskeard Steam & Vintage Club Ltd.
20th, 21st & 22nd July 2012
The club when it was first formed was known as the Cornish Traction Preservation Society and they held their annual Traction Engine Rally at the site in Merrymeet, Nr Liskeard. The formation of the Liskeard Steam & Vintage Club happened when the former club (Cornish Traction Preservation Society) decided to move away from the old Merrymeet site. Text taken from our first programme states that "The show must go on. Ladies and gentlemen, I am delighted to welcome you to the annual Merrymeet Rally of Vintage Equipment. This year (1982) the event is being staged by the newly formed Liskeard Steam and Vintage Club. The previous organisers had decided to move the rally elsewhere and so to continue at Merrymeet has meant arranging it with no financial reserves." these were the words from the clubs president Richard Sandercock.
The club held many successful and un successful rallies at the old Merrymeet site until the 90's when things went a bit quiet and shortly the rally ceased to be held at Merrymeet, a few years passed without a rally at all until.....
1999 when the first Boconnoc Steam Fair was organised by a few very committed members, and as the years have progressed what was once a small gathering in a field at Boconnoc has now turned into one of the biggest and best steam rally's in the south west. In 2004 the club became a limited company yet everyone is still a volunteer, giving up their time to put on this fantastic show for you all to see.
